TORN EARLOBE OR SPLIT EARLOBE REPAIR
Torn earlobes can occur due to trauma or after wearing heavy earrings for an extended period of time. Earlobes can then be completely torn or the area of the piercing can just be widened. If this occurs, a simple office based procedure can be used to repair the tear. Depending on the severity of the tear, sometimes the piercing can be left in place or can be redone after healing. Healing time for earlobe repair is generally 4-6 weeks. During that time, clip on earrings can be worn after about 1-2 weeks. As a courtesy to his patients, Dr. Verret will repierce the repaired earlobes after it is healed.
In addition to torn earlobes, sometimes earlobes can become pulled over time. This too can be surgically corrected.
PIXIE EAR (ATTACHED EARLOBE) REPAIR
A pixie ear is when the earlobe is attached to the side of the face. This can occur as a normal variant but can also occur after facial surgery, such as facelifts and partidectomy surgery. When the pixie ear occurs after facial surgery or trauma, it can result in an unnatural appearance. Fortunately, there are options for pixie ear repair. The longest lasting repair occurs with a revision facelift procedure. For patients who do not have enough skin laxity for a revision facelift, either a suture repair performed with local anesthesia or a V-Y advancement flap repair can be undertaken with excellent results.
