Surgiwire® Wrinkle Release
Tired of always looking angry because of lines between your eyebrows? The Surgiwire wrinkle wipe may be for you. The winkle wipe is a minimally invasive procedure which takes only minutes and can be done with local anesthesia that wipes away the deep lines between the eyebrows. The Surgiwire wrinkle wipe is a minimally invasive lunchtime procedure which can reverse the lines that create an unnatural angry appearance. It picks up where Botox® Cosmetic leaves off and for some patients can be an alternative to Botox® Cosmetic. Replace repeat injections with a one time permanent solution.
Lines between the eyebrows, known as glabellar furrows, can be caused by either tethering of the skin to the underlying structures or motion of muscles of the brow causing the skin to wrinkle. If the wrinkles are present at rest, they are likely due to tethering of the skin and the Surgiwire wrinkle wipe is for you.
The Surgiwire wrinkle wipe is done in the office using local anesthesia. Using two small incisions in natural creases of the skin, a wire is passed under the skin to release the tethering. A small piece of deep tissue is taken from behind the ear and placed in under the skin to prevent it from rescarring. Two small pieces of flesh colored tape are placed over the incisions.
Will there be bruising?
While any procedure can produce bruising, it is unlikely with this procedure. A small amount of makeup will usually cover any bruising that occurs.
When can I return to work?
Patients can generally return to work the same day. In some instances bruising and swelling may delay patients from returning to work for a couple of days.
Does this replace Botox® Cosmetic?
It will take care of the lines at rest which Botox® Cosmetic usually does not address and lines present after Botox® Cosmetic has taken effect. There are more permanent alternatives to Botox® Cosmetic that Dr. Verret would be happy to talk with you about which can also be done in the office using local anesthesia.
How long does it last?
Though the Surgiwire has only been around since 2007, to date it has shown lasting results. Given the nature of the technique, it is likely that this will be a permanent procedure.
How is the procedure performed?
This brief flash movie demonstrates the Surgiwire wrinkle wipe procedure. In addition, a small incision is made above the ear to obtain tissue which is placed between the brows to ensure that scarring does not reproduce the lines.
